




It is the only inhabited islet in a lake, with around three hundred inhabitants. Wonderful and verdurous, with exquisite the Filanthropinon, Panteleimonos, Eleousas, Stratigopoulou, Prodromou, Metamorfoseos Sotira Monasteries as well as the Museum of the pre-revolution era-the place where Ali Pasha was killed, hounded by the troops of Hursit. The boat trip only takes twenty minutes and boats departure every half an hour from Molos.
The Filanthropinon Monastery was a centre of enlightment and the place where the brightest teachers of the nation taught and the Secret School was run. Its frescos are dated in the 13th century and together with those in the Monastery of Saint John in Patmos, are the oldest in Greece.
